Line 6 POD Express: Back in Black for High Gain Lovers
More metal for your metal!
[October 23, 2024] We’re close to spooky season, so it’s only natural that Line 6 is releasing the Line 6 Pod Express Black Edition. Plus, you get loads of high gain amps and presets in this special edition.
Line 6 POD Express Black Edition
Ushering in 2024’s Halloween season, Line 6 introduces the Line 6 Pod Express Black Edition. But this special edition isn’t just optics. They’ve also included a host of high gain amps and presets.
While you still get seven amps, seven cabs and 17 effects as with the red edition, this Black edition is loaded with heavy sounds. The seven amp models are called Dirge, Crux, Anvil, Slay, Mega, Avant, and Pure – each heavier and meaner than the next from the sound of it. They’ve also changed the FX layout.
For Distortion you get Opamp, LED, Distort and Fuzz. While the four Boost effects remain the same, you’ll get a dedicated set of modulations effects instead of delays. It includes Chorus, Flanger, Phaser and Tremolo. There are still Tape and Digital Delays, now combined with Ambience and Hall reverbs. The new Line 6 Pod Express Black edition is now available at Thomann* for 199 euros.
[March 5, 2024] These Line 6 POD Express Guitar amp and the POD Express Bass amp are the company’s new ultra-portable HX modelling based, amps and effects designed for players on the move.
Line 6 POD Express Guitar and Bass
Each of the Line 6 POD Express Guitar and Bass amps is a super lightweight, affordable portable amp solution with built-in effects and utilising the company’s HX modelling. They are controlled by the two footswitches labeled On and Tap/Tuner.
On turns the amp, cab, and effects on and off, and Tap/Tuner sets the tempo, but users can also repurpose either switch (plus up to two external switches) to turn individual effects or the amp modeling on and off. Each pedal has five main control knobs and these allow navigation of the amps and effects.
Amps and Effects
They include seven amps, seven IR-based factory cabs, 17 effects, and a built-in looper function, making them a versatile solution for many applications. With up to four effects available at once, including a looper.
Recording and more
Stereo outputs, tap tempo, a built-in tuner, noise gate, headphone output, and a four-channel USB-C audio interface make these perfect for practice, recording, and live work. The four-channel audio interface offers reamping. Users can record on Macs, PCs, iPhones, iPads, and Android devices.
An external footswitch can even control them. Using an optional expression pedal for volume control and up to two footswitches for hands-free patch changes and effect parameter control.
Power
I like that they can be powered via three AA batteries or an optional 9-volt power supply. This decreases the price, as they haven’t included a rechargeable battery, making them more affordable. POD Express ships with three AA batteries, which gives about 6 hours of use.
The plastic casing is also a way to keep the production cost down, though I suspect many musicians will keep them in a gig bag, so they should be safe enough.

I dig these – seem nice and simple for pairing with a digital recorder to record guitar and bass without any menu diving
