A swiss army knife budget amp head?
The new Line 6 Spider V 240HC amp head is the first guitar amp head with a built-in speaker. And although there’s lots of other features on-board, it’s this speaker that may well make or break this new product.

While the new amp models over 200 guitar amps, you can also download even more sounds using the Spider V Remote mobile app. Amp models can also be combined with up to eight effects. Line 6 has also added some other goodies, like a USB direct recording output that will let you go straight into your DAW; Cubase LE is included if you don’t yet have one. If you use the Line 6 Relay wireless system, you’ll be pleased to hear that the Spider V 240HC has a receiver built-in.
There are 128 sound presets on-board, too, to get you started. All in all, this sounds like it could be a versatile little amp head for many players that just want to get out and gig.
An Amp Head with Built-in Speaker?
But the new feature that’s most interesting is the combinations of stereo 4″ speakers and 2 tweeters with up to 50 watts of power. There’s not much more information available on the speaker system as yet, and there are no audio demos currently available. I suspect, though, that the usability and quality of the speaker system will make or break this amp model.
