New in the LIVEN range of musical groove boxes comes Bass&Beats that combines a wavetable bass engine with a library of EDM focused rhythm sounds.

Following on from the 8bit Warps and XFM, Bass&Beats is Sonicware’s third groovebox in this desktop form factor. Featuring a wavetable bass engine and sample-based rhythm section this could be the liveliest LIVEN so far.

The bass engine has 2 wavetable oscillators with 32 waveforms to choose from. You can add in a sub oscillator and a noise generator. There’s a multi-mode filter, envelopes, LFO, unison mode and distortion effects. You have a pair od assignable knobs that can be mapped to whatever parameters you like and as many as you want giving you a lot of control on a single twist.
For the rhythm engine you get over 150 drum samples and over 50 FX samples. The digital engine can be dialled down from 16bit to 4bit for some glitchy lo-fi distortion. The samples are arranged into drum kits but you can also mix and match to create your own.
On the sequencer side you get 64 steps and 128 patterns with separate bass and rhythm tracks. You can record and lock parameter changes into your patterns. The rhythm track supports 16 sounds that can be muted at a touch of a button. For live performance you get some randomisation, stutter and dice/probability effects. And you can play over the top of playing patterns.
LIVEN machines are lightweight, battery-powered, have a built-in speaker and are a riot of fun and colour. It’ll definitely liven up your day.
Bass&Beats is open for preorders for a very reasonable $199 and shipping is estimated for February.
