It ain’t bad but that’s a 5 to 19$ software… 40 is a stretch

Agreed. $40 is too much.
Having never used the software I could be wrong but it seems to be or have the potential to be as useful , though slightly less necessary for for most of a utility as plugin search by Speaker food. the pricing should probably be slightly less or on par.
My guess is the developer assumes most people will wait for a sale and that $40 asking price probably gives the developer enough wiggle room to take forty to fifty per ent off for whatever sales come up.
us consumers will bet a great deal by comparison to the MSRP and the developer will get paid close to or at the actual perceived value of their app. everybody wins .
I can’t wait for sale so I can snatch this up..
