Mad Professor adds four new “Lockdown Special” modded pedals
Four classic pedals modded during lockdown
The Mad Professor has just announced a new series of modded pedals he’s been working in his secret laboratory during lockdown. These limited-edition, hand-wired pedals are all built in Finland and offer some refinements on his established effect pedal circuits.
Mad Professor Amplification Lockdown Specials
These four new limited-edition pedals are modified versions of an existing pedal from the company’s back catalogue. All four are available now:
- Dual Blue Delay with Deep mod
- Big Tweedy Drive with Super Tweed mod
- Stone Grey Distortion Modernised mod
- Amber Overdrive with Midas Touch mod
Dual Blue Delay with Deep mod
This popular and intuitive delay has received some modifications, including:
The Dual Blue Delay‘s SHORT side is now made to replicate exactly the sound of the Deep Blue Delay circuit, so you can now dial in slap back, room emulating, always-ON echo. Plus, you can set the SHORT side darker than Deep Blue Delay, as well. Some bass frequencies have also been cut from the LONG side (effect only) and you can now set the delay level high without the fear of generating overwhelming delay.
The original Dual Blue Delay has two slightly different-sounding versions of the same multi-head configuration to choose from. In the Custom Series Dual Blue Delay with the ‘Deep’ mod, one of the multi head sounds is replaced by a new multi head configuration inspired by an Echorec position 7 sound. That’s the delay sound made famous by players like David Gilmour and Hank Marvin. Although this is set as the default delay, the original multi-head tape delay is selectable as well.
RRP – EUR 345.96
Big Tweedy Drive with Super Tweed mod
As the name suggests, the Tweedy Drive with Super Tweed Mod is a tweaked circuit that gives you a tweed-style amp drive tone, with even more gain and more bass. The Mad Professor has been careful to achieve this without the tone getting too muddy or overwhelming, making it enticing for players looking for a vintage ’50s amp tone with more highly-saturated sweet harmonics and low end.
RRP – EUR 208
Stone Grey Distortion Modernized mod
The Stone Grey Distortion Modernized mod is a high-gain distortion circuit tweaked here to provide a mid-range that’s been notched up a bit. Overall, the pedal also has more gain than the original. This mod should make this pedal even more versatile, opening up more gain and even thicker drive tones.
RRP – EUR 208
Amber Overdrive with Midas Touch mod
Last up is the Amber Overdrive with a Midas Touch mod. This pedal provides the fuzz tone from the Mad Professor Golden Cello pedal, but with with more output. If you’re not familiar with the Golden Yellow, it’s described as a vintage fuzz stacked with overdrive going into tape echo and a 100-Watt vintage Marshall. So this mod gives you that tone, but a drive and fuzz tone with even more output. Nice.
RRP – EUR 208
