NAMM 2016: Marshall launch new series of CODE amps
Marshall have teamed up with Softube for their new CODE series of modelling amps. The amps are designed to recreate many classic Marshall designs, including the JTM45 2245, 1962 Bluesbreaker, 1959SLP Plexi, JCM800 2203, JCM2555 Silver Jubilee, JCM2000 DSL100, JVM410H.
The two companies have worked together in the past on the JMD series of amps back in 2010. These new models seem to go a step further and offer lots of ‘modern’ connectivity features, as well as what they call MST, supposedly a more “authentic modelling” according to the press releases. Currently CODE amps include 14 different preamps, four power amps and eight speaker cabinet combinations to choose from.
Bluetooth is included on all models, allowing players to stream audio, as well as remotely control the amp. You can share presets with others users via the Marshall Gateway App. Hopefully people will start sharing some customised tones later this year, which could conceivably open up the range to some signature amp sounds as well. The USB port offers DAW integration and audio playback.
The whole range seems to be in a lower price segment, matching the competition in this market like Line 6 and Vox. It should be interesting to see how Marshall does with these new amps and if there will be any room for expansion in the future.
