Mas Effects Sona Fuzz: From extreme to a touch of class

Mas Effects has just released the new Sona Fuzz from, billed as a touch sensitive high-gain, three-knob fuzz. The pedal is also launching with some limited edition colour options.

A good quality fuzz pedal can be a glorious thing to own, and the new Mas Effects Sona Fuzz appears to fall into this bracket. You get a relatively simple three-knob control layout of Fuzz, Volume, and Tone knobs, plus a single mini-toggle switch called Body (though it isn’t labelled on the actual pedal itself) to add some thickness to the fuzz, if required.

Adjust your fuzz
Internally, you have a Fuzz Ceiling trim pot that sets the amount of fuzz. So if you want over the top fuzziness, here is where you set that up, or tame it to taste if you prefer a less raucous experience. There is also an internal bias trim pot which allows you to adjust how much splat and splutter the fuzz voicing has.
The pedal has a nice soft-touch footswitch, which can also be set to latching, which means you can add dashes of fuzz to your tone as you depress it. Or you can set it up as a regular on/off switch, if you prefer. It also has top-mounted jack plugs, relay switching true bypass, and uses an external 9V power supply with a 19mA draw.

Limited Colours
Currently, you can order the Sona Fuzz in some limited run colours, at no extra cost. These include Sparkle, Sunshine or a silver knob option. The standard colour option is Natural, and all variations have the same graphic on the front.
You can hear the new Mas Effects Sona Fuzz in action below. I think it sounds pretty flexible and appears to react well to adjusting the volume control on your guitar. This is what I personally look for in a good quality fuzz pedal. So for all you fuzz pedal addicts, this is one worth checking out.
