Mercuriall Audio Tubes Creamer – Free virtual Ibanez Tube Screamer plugin
Mercuriall Audio Software’s Tubes Creamer 808 Core is a free virtual Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer pedal emulation that you can use in your DAW.
The infamous Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer pedal is associated with artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan with his incendiary Texas Blues guitar playing. The original units now trade hands for large sums of money and just about every boutique overdrive pedal builder has tried to either replicate or better the original design.
This virtual version has a standard TS-808 emulated circuit and also a ‘modded’ cleaner version of the circuit with slightly more bass when the Drive control is dialled to minimum setting. This might make it useful for lots of applications in your DAW besides just guitar signals. The Tubes Creamer plugin can run in either mono or stereo mode on your tracks and so will be more versatile than an original with all these added virtual features. Of course, it’s not quite as pedalboard-friendly as a real pedal, but on the plus side it won’t run out of battery power any time soon!
Hopefully this freebie will help you get a close approximation of what the original pedal is famous for: That mid hump clean overdrive tone loved by many players for its ability to lift your guitar sound out of that typical sonically muddled band scenario.
Available from 12th June onwards, the Tubes Creamer plugin will be available in VST/AU/AAX formats for both PC and Mac. Go check it out later this week, as it will not cost you anything to do so. Mercuriall Audio have a number of free software plugins on their page already, so if you are working to a budget you should go see if any of their freebies could help you out.
The Tubes Creamer should be available here later this week: Mercuriall Audio Free downloads
