Mesa/Boogie Mark Five: 25 1×10 combo – Small footprint, huge tone
A mini Mark Five with switchable output rating
Mesa/Boogie has just announced a new Mark Five: 25 1×10 Combo, a slimmer version of the Mk V. Also planned is a head with a matching cabinet.
A lighter Mk V – the Mark Five: 25 combo
Taking the Mesa/Boogie Mark Five platform and making it slightly smaller is the name of the game here. Giving us a 1×10″ speaker format, the new Mark Five: 25 1×10 Combo weighs in at around 24 pounds and measures 14″ by 14″.
This makes the combo pretty manageable, especially in comparison to the full sized combos you normally get from Mesa, which weigh a fair amount. I’ve owned quite few Mesa/Boogie amps in the past and often take some lugging to move in and out the van.
Low power mode
The new Mark Five: 25 1×10 Combo has Mesa’s patented Dyna-Watt technology. This gives the user two power levels with different wiring configurations via independent 10/25-Watt power switches for each channel.
Mesa/Boogie says the 10-Watt mode uses two tubes operating in Class A/B Triode for “lush harmonics and liquid feel” at lower volumes. Then in the 25-Watt Mode you have a pair of tubes operating in Mesa’s exclusive Dyna-Watt Class A/B Pentode for what they describe was “maximum power, punch and clarity.”
Twin Channels
Channel 1 is where you will find the clean, fat or crunch modes with a Multi-Watt power switch offering of 10 or 25 Watts.
Channel 2 is the one with the Mark IIC+, Mark IV and Xtreme Modes with a Multi-Watt power switch of 10 or 25 Watts. You also get a selectable 5-Band Graphic EQ which is foot switchable, channel assignable or it can be bypassed completely if desired.
10″ Speaker tone
The Mark Five: 25 1×10 is fitted with a UK made Celestion G10 Creamback speaker chosen specifically for its unique ability to deliver rich tone with a smaller footprint, according to Mesa/Boogie.
The combo has the Mesa/Boogie all-tube, spring reverb with independent channel control on the rear panel of the amp, plus a fully buffered, tube FX Loop and built-in CabClone Cabinet Simulator with internal amp load and handy headphone output.
You can also buy this model as a separate head, with a matching 1×10″ cab as well. All the amps are built and deigned in Petaluma, California, so expect the usual fantastic build quality.
RRP: USD 1699
