The Mesa Boogie Split Back 2×12 and 4×12 cabinets are back! These cabs were the secret sonic ingredient behind some of the 80s’ biggest hits. After being away for almost thirty years, they’re available again! And they are the perfect match for the recently released Mark IIC+ and Dual Rectifier Solo heads!

Mesa Boogie Split Back: Back Again!

The new Mesa Boogie Split Back cabs give you the best of both worlds—open-back clarity up top and tight, punchy lows down below. Just like they did in the 80s, when the Split Backs were an absolute staple in stadium rock. Now Mesa Boogie is re-releasing them in all their 2×12 or 4×12 glory.

These cabs are made for tough touring conditions with Baltic birch plywood shells, hand-formed leather corners, and a Bronco Tolex vinyl cover. Also, you get an expanded metal grill for protection. It also looks pretty damn nice! In addition, the Mesa Boogie Split Backs come with MB’s Track-Loc guide plates and removable casters. That way, transporting these giants and setting them up is much easier.

Celestion drivers

The Mesa Boogie Split Backs come in two variants: 2×12 and 4×12. The 2×12 Split Back mono (8 Ohm) includes two Celestion C90 speakers (one in an open back chamber on top and the other in a sealed, ported chamber below) with 180W power handling. A fitted slip cover is included.

In comparison, the 4×12 Split Back offers two C90s on top in the open chamber and two proprietary Celestion Vintage 30 speakers in the lower sealed chamber. This combination delivers that iconic monstrous low end and that classic British mid-scoop. It delivers a mighty 300 watts.

Both speakers include a main out on the back (for 8 ohms impedance) and a parallel out. With that, you can connect another 8-ohm cab and decrease the load to 4 ohms. The 4×12 also offers a split mode. That way, you can run it in stereo, and each side is driven by 4 ohms.

Price and availability

Mesa Boogie sound costs Mesa Boogie money. That is not to say that the Mesa Boogie Split Back cabs are not worth their price, not by a long shot! The 2×12 costs 1,499 euros while the 4×12 costs €1,999.00 here at Thomann*.
