Metal fan makes a guitar out of his dead uncle’s bones
Prince Midnight' Uncle Filip is now an electric guitar!
Get ready for possibly the most bizarre guitar story of the year. It’s about a metal fan who made a guitar from an actual human skeleton. His uncle’s, to be precise.
Human Skeleton Guitar
The amateur luthier in question, a reader of MetalSucks, calls himself Prince Midnight. He made an electric guitar out of his dead uncle Filip’s skeleton, incorporating parts of his uncle’s skeleton and a ready made guitar neck, plus some pickups from what looks like a Telecaster-style guitar. The result is the Filip Skelecaster.
Metal bones
Here’s the backstory: Filip died young in a car accident 20-odd years ago. When he was still alive he had asked for his bones to be donated for medical study at a local college. The bones had been in storage for a while, though, because the college had no use for them. Uncle Filip was returned to the family in a wooden box. But what to do with the skeletal remains of their relative? Cremation is forbidden by the Greek Orthodox church, and Filip’s nephew Prince Midnight didn’t want to continue paying costly rent for the cemetery space. So he got creative.
“So, I got the box of bones from Greece and didn’t know what to do at first. Bury them? Cremate them? Put them in the attic? All seemed like poor ways to memorialize someone who got me into heavy metal.
“So, I decided to turn Uncle Filip into a guitar, which proved to be challenging. I did a lot of research and no one has ever made a guitar out of a skeleton. So, I did it. I started out consulting with two guys in Dean Guitars’ wood shop in Tampa but they got cold feet.
“Anyways, now Uncle Filip can shred for all eternity. That’s how he would want it. I’m super proud of the project and how it serves to honor him, his life and his influence on me.
