MidiQuintet: Curious joystick based MIDI controller
Artist and designer Gilou has revealed a playful MIDI controller that gives you 5 fingers worth of control in a box inspired by the Matti Suuronen Futuro house.
MidiQuintet
It’s a nice idea: Five game controller style joysticks set at where your fingers fall giving you a very playful degree of MIDI control over your sounds and modulations.
The joysticks can be configured to control anything you like over MIDI and they also incorporate switches so that you can do things like mute tracks by pressing down on the joysticks. It’s based on the Teensy microcontroller.

The hardware design is inspired by the 1960s Futuro house by Matti Suuronen and it is a very engaging shape and colour. Although I have to say that I prefer Gilou’s Futuro House inspired sunglasses myself.

I’m not sure the MidiQuintet will make it to market but it’s not the craziest thing I’ve ever seen and definitely could be a workable idea for a MIDI controller on my desk.
