Mojo Hand FX Sericon: Klon-style overdrive with three gain stages and a low-pass filter
More than just your average Klone
The new Sericon from Mojo Hand FX is more than your average boutique Klone. This Klon-style overdrive has three gain stages, plus a handy low-pass filter for added flexibility.

The latest Mojo Hand FX pedal is definitely a Klon-based overdrive, and doesn’t hide away from this fact. What is interesting though, is how it expands upon the usual Klon ‘Transparent Overdrive’ style drive. The Sericon adds Drive, Gain and Blaze dials, which control the three gain stages respectively, to the standard Level and Treble controls of the original Klon circuit.
Tweakable Gain Stages
Drive changes the level of the first gain stage along with the harmonic elements of the tone in the latter gain stages. Gain handles the second stage, and then finally, Blaze is a second gain stage with a built-in low-pass filter. The Sericon’s Treble knob is a post-distortion control of the high frequencies. The pedal is true-bypass and will run from an external 9V DC power supply.
Overall, it is a nice take on a Klon-style circuit, and not just your average Klone trying to replicate the original circuit in minute detail. I like that it has more than the usual run-of-the-mill Klon tones, and it sounds like it potentially has more girth due to that low-pass filter, which is always welcome.
