Mooer Prime P2: Could this compact unit replace your pedals?
What can't it do?
The new Mooer Prime P2 is the next generation of its ultra-compact P1 audio interface and multi-effects. A compact, versatile virtual pedalboard rig, and with a host of useful features built-in, plus a new 1.3″ touchscreen.
Mooer Prime P2
The Mooer Prime P2 straddles many product categories, including audio interface and multi-effects. It also features connectivity via Bluetooth for audio playback and a USB-C port for recording on the go. The new 1.3″ touchscreen allows for easy navigation of all the parameters and is a substantial upgrade compared to the previous P1 *version.
Amp & Effect Models
Users can access 52 amp models + 10 downloadable GNR file slots, 25 Cab Sims + 10 downloadable GIR/3rd IR file slots, and 57 classic and experimental effects models.
There’s a lot on offer from dynamic vintage amp models to huge stereo reverbs, modulations, and delays based on powerful digital algorithms. The effect chain is also completely customisable and this means you can arrange the blocks in any order for maximum versatility.
Potentially, this could replace a pedalboard rig for many guitarists. Perfect, for when you need to travel ultra-light.
Smartphone App Editing
For extended functionality via a smartphone, you can download the MOOER Prime app. It allows for in-depth editing of preset patches and effects chain parameters, as well as saving and recalling up to 80 presets. The presets can also be downloaded and shared via the MOOER Tone Cloud. Allowing users to access even more tones easily, could be a winner and it is a smart move on Mooer’s part.
Drums, Looper, and MIDI
A smart device can be used to control the tuner, drum machine, metronome, and looper. Mooer recommends an F-Series wireless footswitch (sold separately) for hands-free operation. This also makes the Prime P2 a very powerful live performance tool, that won’t take up a lot of space in your gig bag.
A MIDI interface is also available for preset switching, looper, and drum machine functions, using CC commands from an external MIDI controller.
Battery and mic input
A headphone jack is available for silent practice or recording sessions. Singer/songwriters will particularly enjoy the TRRS headphone input, which supports the use of headphones with a built-in microphone.
In addition, the integrated battery offers a running time of up to five hours. Making this a truly portable solution, and one with a viable running time in the real world.
Verdict
The Mooer P2 is practically the definition of feature-packed and I can see it being a viable solution for musicians that require a product to support their creativity on the move. Now, the only problem, is do you choose black or white?
