Moogseum Shuttered by Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene hit the East Coast of the United States over the weekend, cutting a wide swathe of destruction through multiple states. One area that’s been hit particularly badly is the Asheville region of North Caroline, home base to a number of synthesizer-related companies like Moog Music and Make Noise.

The Moogseum is also in Asheville and posted to its Facebook page that it had suffered enough damage to have to close indefinitely – but thankfully avoided any flooding:

“Thank you to those of you who have reached out from all over the world. We are deeply grateful to have been spared any flooding from Hurricane Helene. The Moogseum sustained minor exterior damage. You can see here that our awning frame was torn off the building. It fell and broke our window. Fortunately we have a heavy duty security film on all of our windows, so even when broken, they are impenetrable and remain intact. We have boarded up the broken side as a cautionary measure until the glass can be replaced. That may be a while considering the immense devastation in our community.”

Moogseum Without Power, Water or Cell Phone Service

The current issue the Moogseum is facing, as with many others in the Asheville area, is the lack of water or cell service due to the effects of Hurricane Helene. This will prevent the museum from opening for business again soon.

“The Moogseum will be closed for the foreseeable future – maybe a week, maybe much more. While electricity has been restored at the Moogseum, we are still without water or cell service. It’s best for us to wait until all infrastructure stabilizes before opening our doors again.”

The Moogseum is a museum dedicated to the life and work of Bob Moog. If you’d like to help, per the Facebook post you can make a donation directly to the Bob Moog Foundation, become a member of the Bob Moog Foundation, or buy something from their online store.

Moog Music Status Unknown

Moog Music is also located in Asheville. Although the company did make a post to its Facebook page, it did not mention anything about its current status.

“We are deeply saddened by the disaster caused by Tropical Storm Helene this past weekend in our home, Asheville, NC,” the post reads. “Our thoughts and support are with the many members of the Moog family that have been affected by the storm as well as countless members of our community in Western North Carolina.”

As Moog Music is not far from the Moogseum, we can assume that it also avoided flooding.

“Make Noise are all accounted for and safe”

Make Noise is also centered in Asheville, on the other side of town from Moog Music and the Moogseum. It also luckily avoided any damage from the storm.

Here is what Make Noise said on its Facebook page:

“Thank you to everyone who has checked in on us! Make Noise are all accounted for and safe and Make Noise is safe, our stock is high and dry.”

How You Can Help

As Make Noise continues to say in its post, “there is a much larger problem of a devastated city infrastructure which has left people stranded, without water, power or communications.”

If you would like to help, here are three organizations recommended by Make Noise:

Additionally, Moog Music has linked to Together Asheville for those affected by the storm.

We wish everyone affected by Helene a speedy recovery.
