Most popular synth brands by country: Who takes the lead?
Which synth brands are the most popular around the world? This fascinating map by woodandfirestudio.com shows the most popular synthesizer manufacturers by country. Some are a given, but others may come as a surprise!
Most popular synth brands around the world
Which is the most popular synth brand in your country – Behringer, Roland, Korg, or Moog? By analyzing Google search queries from around the globe, woodandfirestudio.com put together a map of the most popular synthesizer makers in each country. Check out the world map of synths:
Large red and blue areas show that Behringer and Roland are among the most popular synth brands. While Behringer leads in Northern Asia, Central and South America, parts of Eastern Europe, Germany, Spain, and several other countries, Roland has strongholds in Japan, Africa, Canada, India, parts of Eastern Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
Other brands are also successful on their home turf. Moog is first across the line in the USA, while Arturia leads in France. The latter also tops the Google ranking in the UK, Ireland, Colombia, and South Korea, while Moog seems to have many fans in the Philippines.
What’s also surprising is that Korg only manages to top the list in Sweden, New Zealand, and Azerbaidjan.
How meaningful is this data?
The synth data specialists are quick to point out that country-specific anomalies might affect the accuracy of their findings. “Korg” happens to be the Swedish word for “basket” – chances are that some Swedish Korg googlers weren’t actually searching for synths. Roland is a popular first name in several languages. And there’s more than one company named “Moog” in the US – could it be that some of those Google queries were actually for vehicle suspension parts?
Still, it’s interesting to see which synth brands are most often searched for in countries around the world. If you thought that Behringer was the most popular synth brand in every country, this map proves that that’s far from the truth.

The most popular synth company in my house is Dreadbox.
Thank you! Interesting! I never thought that preferences for certain brands of synthesizers are related to geography. And what about our beloved Yamaha?
What a humbug. For all we know everyone was googling how to return their Behringer! Data taken out of context, lovely. Get me data, salesfigures, amounts of pieces sold per brand per country and you know what’s popular!
French and American people supporting local brands (being french I’m not immune to the stereotype given the number of arturia stuff I own)
I can’t believe this ‘map’ and the details provided!
Iworked in 14 countries in Africa … and I am sure that I did not see anything from Roland . . . but many many equipment from Behringer !
And allmost all the keyboards used in churches and bands are Yamaha keyboard …
Strange to see this map – I wonder how these ‘preferences’ were found out . . .
based on google search, not actual sales
The data methodology here is so shockingly bad, for exactly the reasons given, that it ends up being even less than meaningless.
