For years, MOTU has been a market leader in the audio interface game. So it’s refreshing to see the company offering some new developments, even if they are just updating their most popular products, as they did with the 828.

The new 2025 version of the 16A is powered by ESS Sabre32 Ultra™ conversion and offers 16 balanced TRS line inputs and equally, 16 line outs as well. Meanwhile, digital I/O includes two sets of 8-channel ADAT I/O, so you have the means to expand your system at any stage with mic preamps if you need to.

On the front panel, the new 16A features a wonderfully large dual 3.9-inch colour display system, giving you a complete session overview with metering for all analogue and digital I/O. Within the display’s menu systems, you can also make customizations to suit your specific workflow, such as looking at the analogue I/O metering exclusively.

Naturally, one of the main reasons you’d choose the 16A is its network audio capabilities. With a built-in AVB switch and two Ethernet ports, you can chain up to 8 16A units using nothing more than basic network cables and you have full control of the entire system from a single host laptop or desktop system.

Furthermore, the 16A is able to send and receive up to 128 channels of audio via a network system, and it’s also backwards compatible with MOTU’s older AVB interfaces. With its new USB ports, the 16A can even connect to iOS devices, as well as Thunderbolt 4, USB4, USB3, and USB2, and the accompanying CueMix Pro provides a great platform for mixing and channel management.
