Mr Black Mini Vintage Chorus: A Boss CE-1 circuit in mini pedal
New Boss CE-1 style chorus effect in a mini pedal format for modern guitar rigs
Portland, Oregon’s Mr Black makes some pretty amazing pedals. His latest is a take on the classic ’70s Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble – but now in a tiny pedalboard-friendly format. Introducing the new Mini Vintage Chorus, a CE-1 that has been on a serious diet!
Mr Black Mini Vintage Chorus
The original Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble is a fantastic chorus pedal, I know as I’ve owned a few of them in my time and so I can attest to their sound. The major issue with them is though is they are huge, they are mains powered and if set incorrectly (they have a variable input level) they can sound noisy.
BBD
Well, Mr Black has just announced his new Mini Vintage Chorus and this tiny mini pedal format chorus effect seeks to emulate those classic late ’70s modulation effects we all love. It has three easy-to-use controls labelled Mix, Width and Rate. The chorus circuit is a BBD-style circuit, so expect some nice analogue chorusing and true pitch-vibrato tones from this little chorus pedal, just like the original.
I’m a big fan of Mr Black pedals – I love my Wormhole flanger pedal! I have high hopes for this mini chorus effect. The first batch has already sold out, but Mr Black has them listed as being available soon. You may have to get your order in fast if you want to hit that second batch.
The Mini Vintage Chorus has a pedalboard-friendly format and a 9V DC power-supply operation, a <60mA current draw and standard input/output jacks. This new effect is certainly a lot easier to deal with than the original ones (and is certainly a lot cheaper than an original vintage CE-1 pedal).
RRP – USD 99
