Mr Black has a new mini pedal, the OD-503. Hand-made in Portland, it’s the latest in Mr Black’s series of quality super compact pedals.

The Mr Black OD-503 pedal is a light overdrive that, according to the official website, aims to enhance the core tone of your guitar and amp setup, rather than colour your sound and .
With three knobs labelled Output, Treble and Drive, this little pedal has all you need to achieve just that. When subtle drive tones like these are set up right, you can expect great picking dynamics and the sound of your guitar to shine through. With lighter overdrive pedals, I’ve found that a good valve amp and plenty of volume will really show off the overall sound of the rig. The key here is not overpowering your guitar’s natural tone, just giving you enough gain to accentuate your articulation when playing.

Simple and effective
This little pedal is true-bypass and will run from an external 9vDC power supply. You can hear the new Mr Black OD-503 overdrive pedal in action in the video below. I think this could be a great addition to many player’s boards as judging by the demo sounds it can add some nice sonic enhancement, yet but isn’t complicated. It’s about no-hassle drive tones, to bring out the dynamics of your playing. It’ll be interesting to read player reviews when these hit the market.
