Musikmesse 2016: Epiphone Limited Edition Brent Hinds Flying-V
Mastodon guitarist gets new Flying V Signature
Brent Hinds of Mastodon fame has a new Epiphone Flying V, which has been announced just in time for Musikmesse 2016. I usually don’t like Silver Burst guitars, but to me this new guitar looks pretty sweet! Based upon his 2005 Gibson Signature model, this new Flying V looks very classy.
There’s not a huge amount of information yet. we do know it is a Mahogany-bodied Flying V with a mahogany neck and a 12″ radius Ebony board with blocks (I think this is what has swayed me into liking it). It also sports his now familiar SilverBurst finish. The headstock has the classic split diamond logo on the front and the truss rod cover has Brent’s name emblazoned on it as well. It has an Epiphone LockTone™ Tune-o-matic bridge and is strung through the body, so it should have plenty of sustain.
The guitar is loaded with a set of Lace USA Signature Brent Hinds Hammer Claws humbuckers, which I would imagine will make this Epiphone sound very similar to the original Gibson model. The guitar has Grover tuners and on the reverse of the headstock there’s a skull logo which looks a little childish to me. And I like skulls, so that is saying something.
The control layout is a three-way toggle switch and three controls made up of two volume knobs and a master tone control. It looks like this is a limited edition model for 2016, and I imagine that it will be very popular as Mastodon have a huge following and I bet many of them are guitar players as well. The official Epiphone video for it is err, interesting…
Price-wise Thomann have them listed at €799 which I think is pretty cheap for a quality looking Flying V. I was just thinking the other week I need a Flying V in my life… Hint, hint.
RRP EUR €799 GBP £699 hard case not included in price
