Musikmesse 2016: Pigtronix Power – all the juice you’ll need in one unit
Pigtronix are US designed and have a range of pedals that have ridiculous names like Infinity Looper, Echolution and Mothership. Their new venture into power supplies is not so well named as it’s just called Pigtronix Power and I wish they’d given it a better name. This power supply is launching in Europe at Musikmesse this week.
First seen earlier this year at NAMM 2016, the Pigtronix Power supply should have enough power for most pedal whores with enormous pedal power requirements. The unit has the following specifications which I have taken directly from their website.
Pigtronix Power is equipped with 8 individually isolated outputs.
A pair of 9V @ 100mA outlets are intended for standard guitar pedals such as BOSS which do not have high current draw.
Four, independently switchable (9V, 12V, 15V, 18V) multi-voltage outlets provide the flexibility to run virtually any DC powered stomp box. Two of these individually isolated, switchable outlets are rated at 100mA while the other two can provide up to 300mA of current from each output.
A pair of 18V @ 300mA outlets are specifically intended for digital pedals such as the Infinity Looper and Echolution 2 which have high current draw (and require individually isolated power), or for use with the included daisy chain connectors to power up to five analog Pigtronix pedals from one outlet.
As you can see, the unit – even though boringly named – has a lot of voltage options and can power some pretty power-hungry pedals. The pedal has isolated outputs throughout and so should be nice and quiet, plus you should be able to mix and match different pedal voltages without problems.
Power supplies are a bit boring, but a good one can be a real revelation if you’re using lots of pedals. I am hoping this new one will be as good as the spec listed. The price does include all the cabling for your pedal power as well. Currently, pricing is still in dollars, so hopefully post show we will get a UK price. I really wanted to make a bacon joke, but as it’s just a power supply I will contain myself…
RRP USD $299
