Musikmesse 2016: Universal Audio announces UAD-2 Satellite DSP box with USB for Windows
Since the arrival of the USB version of the Apollo Twin Windows users have hoped that Universal Audios interest in external hardware for Windows would continue, and so this announcement is a relief that the Twin USB wasn’t a one-off.
The UAD-2 Satellite USB DSP Accelerator is a desktop friendly device capable of running the full range of UAD powered plug-ins. Available in QUAD or OCTO models with 4 or 8 SHARC processors respectively they can also be integrated alongside existing UAD hardware. It connects to Windows over USB 3.0 which they say gives improved performance over higher sample rates and lower latency than Firewire.
Universal Audio do their usual bundle options of Core, Custom and Ultimate letting you buy it complete with a juicy bundle of plug-ins. The core package includes the “Analog Classics Plus” bundle featuring Legacy editions of LA-2A Classic Audio Leveler, 1176 Classic Limiting Amplifiers, Pultec EQP-1A, Pultec Pro, and Fairchild 670 plug-ins, plus 610-B Tube Preamp, and more. Pricing starts from $999 for the QUAD and $1499 for the OCTO and they should be available anytime now. Shame it’s not a more interesting looking box.
