MXR Clone Looper: Six minutes of looping in one pedal
MXR enter the looper market with a robust new compact offering
MXR’s new Clone Looper provides six minutes of recording time, unlimited overdubs and half- and double-speed playback. That makes it a serious option to consider in the world of loopers.
MXR Clone Looper
First off, let’s be clear about one thing: MXR’s new Clone Looper has a lot to offer given its compact size. With a whopping six minutes of recording time, this pedal lets you do a lot of looping.
But then you also get unlimited overdubs, which is great for layering up your riffs and ideas. Plus, you can set the loops for half and double-speed playback, all of which is is very useful. You can also cancel a loop you don’t like by holding the volume knob down for five seconds.
Not just any old Volume knob!
The Clone Looper’s volume control sets the pedal’s overall output as usual. However, it also has a push function that lets you change your speed and the direction of your loop. Push it once to set the loop playback to half-speed. The blue LED lights continuously. Push it twice for double-speed and the blue LED will flash instead.
CTR + EXP
The CTR jack on the top allows you to connect a tap tempo switch to control your loop speed, and the EXP jack allows you to connect a volume pedal or tap tempo switch for Play Loop Once mode. So you can re-trigger your loop over and over again for DJ-style stutter effects.
The Clone Looper has the ability to choose between true or buffered bypass. Ituses an analogue through-path to keep the integrity of your dry signal and uses storage sample rates up to 88.2kHz. And all loops are saved to the pedal once it is switched off.
All in all, a lot of looping in a compact package. Check it out in the video below and hear it in action.
