My Morning Jacket frontman gets new Gibson Jim James ES-335
With a subtle owl logo
This is the second signature guitar from Gibson this week, following on from the Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom V2. The new Gibson Jim James ES-335 Walnut is the latest signature model for My Morning Jacket vocalist/guitarist, Jim James.
Gibson Jim James ES-335 Walnut
Jim James has spent over two decades as the frontman for the acclaimed rock band My Morning Jacke. During that time, he has pretty much always used an ES-335.
“I am beyond honored and excited to be able to collaborate with Dustin Wainscott and the team at Gibson to create the guitar of my dreams” – Jim James
The new Gibson Jim James ES-335 Walnut has a three-ply maple/poplar/maple body, a mahogany SlimTaper neck, and an Indian rosewood fretboard loaded with 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic dot inlays. It features a walnut nitrocellulose lacquer finish and, to mark it as a signature model, has a Jim James logo on the truss rod cover, and an owl emblem on the back of the headstock.
Calibrated T-Type
The guitar comes loaded with two Gibson Calibrated T-Type pickups. These are controlled with dual volume and tone knobs, which are hand-wired with CTS pots and Orange Drop capacitors. Other hardware includes a set of Kluson Waffleback tuners, a Graph Tech nut, and a lightweight aluminum ABR-1 bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece.
Overall, it sounds like a decent spec’d ES-335, and doesn’t really stray too far from the classic semi-hollow body formula. The guitar comes in a custom Jim James owl emblem hardshell case.
RRP – USD 3499
