Name a price for 2gether Audio’s Rich mastering plug-in and help charity
You don’t have to spend a fortune to get your tracks slammin’, says 2gether Audio. The developer’s freshly released Rich mastering plug-in makes a case for this with a “choose your price” scheme which makes it affordable both to cash-strapped producers and those able and willing to pay a little more, helping out a charity of their choice along the way. Classy move!
Get Rich or die tryin’
Make no mistake, Rich is no cheapie plug-in. Behind it lies a proprietary progressive tone correction algorithm followed by a stereo image processor. It sounds complicated at first, but Rich is laid out with clearly labeled controls including a big ol’ Boost knob that may literally be all you need in some cases.
Looking at the plug-in, there are three distinct sections. The PTC algorithm section has a sweeping three-band equalizer with pre-set boost and cut amounts. Below it are Mono Bass, De-Mud, and Lin-Box controls which act as one-knob problem-solvers.
The PTC is followed by the aforementioned stereo imager which is, again, a one-knob utility. Turn left to tighten, turn right to widen, click the Check Mono button to make sure you don’t go too far and get phasing issue, then apply a limiter for volume safety. The final element is that inviting Boost knob which adjusts compression, saturation, and the intensity of PTC’s tonal shaping – all in a single twist. I expect the Boost functionality to lend itself nicely to sweetening up individual tracks and sub-mixes in addition to giving the master bus some love.
While all that seems fairly approachable, Rich actually has Simple and Expert views to further simplify the user interface. Simple view gives you the essential parameters while Expert provides more detailed controls.
Price and availability
A well thought-out plug-in, Rich is available in 64-bit VST, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and macOS. You can test a free demo or buy the plug-in in a “choose your price” scheme that sees three pricing tiers. Set your own price starting at a USD 10 minimum, USD 29 discounted price, and USD 49 “industry price” – 10% out of which goes to a charity that you get to choose. I think this is an awesome and empowering way to price a product. Kudos to 2gether Audo for having souls, I guess.
