NAMM 2017: EVH 5150, Wolfgangs and 5150III 15-Watt head – a mini eruption, baby!
Van Halen releases long-awaited 'banana' headstock 5150 at last!
EVH has announced three new guitars for 2017 as well as a new lunchbox 15W head to go with them. Best of all, that ‘banana’-shaped headstock is finally available for the fans to go out and buy!
5150 Striped
One humbucker, a Floyd Rose Special and ‘that’ headstock. It’s the one all the fans have been waiting for and finally, it is here!
Based on the ’80s vintage Kramer ‘banana’ headstock shape that long-term Van Halen fans all know and love, this will be a big deal for many die-hard Eddie fans, so I am sure it will be popular. Striped and ready to rock, this stripped back guitar certainly has iconic looks and is made to Eddie’s specs and not silly money like some previous reissue versions made in the past. Of course, it is may be considered not that cheap for a one pickup guitar, but those in the know will adore it.
RRP £1229
USA Wolfgang
Modern day Eddie is playing Wolfgangs and this new American-made version is similar to what you would see Eddie wielding himself on stage.
Ebony fretboard, off-white finish, a pair of EVH humbuckers, a kill switch and of course a decked Floyd Rose with a D-Tuna. This one is definitely expensive, but in my opinion they give you a lot of guitar for the money. The Wolfgang model has been in the work for a while now, and I think in years to come these will be thought of in a similar fashion to how a certain Mr Les Paul helped design his signature guitars back in the 1950s and those guitars are thought of as classics now.
RRP £3199
EVH Striped Wolfgang Special
This is a more budget-friendly version of the US-made Wolfgang mentioned above, offered in a very Eddie-like striped yellow and black livery. This cut-down edition will suit most players’ pockets and still give you the tones you would expect from a modern EVH guitar.
With similar spec and hardware to the 5150 Striped, but this time with two humbuckers and the Wolfgang body shape of course.
£1269
EVH 5150III 15W LBXII Head
The 15-Watt ‘lunchbox’ 5150 III amp has been updated for 2017, aiming to give you modern Van Halen high-gain tone, just in a smaller output format. With the now-famous Green and Blue channels, for clean and dirty tones, this two channel mini head could be great for pub gigs, if you like yer rock.
