NAMM 2018: the Samson XP108w looks like another great portable PA!
There seems to be no shortage of portable PAs to the advantage of musicians on-the-go. At NAMM 2018, we had KORG, Bose, and finally – Samson – present some downright intriguing products. Samson’s Expedition XP108w is a rechargeable, portable PA that comes with a handheld wireless mic and Bluetooth connectivity.
With that and up 20 hours of battery life, 200 watts of power, and a 4-channel mixer, the XP108w comes off as a powerful speaker indeed! The build comprises a 2-way speaker enclosure and 8-inch woofer, along with a 1-inch HF driver. A Class D amplifier handles amplification, while the four channels have 2-band EQs (bass & treble) each, along with independent volume controls. There’s an XLR 1/4-inch combo input for microphones and line-level devices, along with an 1/8-inch (3.5mm) Aux input for stereo line level gear like MP3 players. The Line output lets you daisy-chain multiple speakers together, forming a sound system.
Adding to the speaker’s digital aspect is a USB wireless port for use with Samson’s XPD Series USB Digital Wireless Systems. It’s also able to charge a smartphone or another USB device – so that’s a speaker and a powerbank as well! Not only that, the PA comes with a 3/8-inch speaker stand mount as well. And with a telescopic handle and rolling wheels, transport shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.
There’s no price and availability information right now, so we are reaching out to Samson in hopes to get it. In the meantime, check out KORG and Bose‘s announcement to see what the XP108w will be up against throughout 2018!
