NAMM 2019: iCON Platform U22 VST high-resolution audio interface
iCON is expanding their Platform… platform with a high-end, high-resolution 2 in/out audio interface. It’s designed to match the other Platform devices which accounts for it’s slightly squashed and wedge-like appearance.
iCon Platform U22 VST
Just 2 in and 2 out but with a super high dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio. Recording in 24bit up to 192kHz over USB 3.0. It says here it’s “full duplex” which means you can record and playback at the same time! Not heard that being called a “feature” since 1996. Both inputs are on combi XLR jacks with individual gain and phantom power controls. They feature iCon’s “innovative” mic/line/instrument preamps. On the back you have 2 balanced outputs and MIDI I/O. Rounding it off is a single headphone output with volume control. In the middle is a nice big volume knob which always makes me happy.
One cool feature is the inclusion of the “ProVSTDriver” software which is a VST plugin host that incorporates hardware routing through the U22. You can create whole chains and connections between hardware and plug-ins without having to open your DAW.
Other than being a bit wide and funny looking it appears to be a very capable audio interface.
