NAMM 2019: Noatronic adds MIDI control to your guitar!
Add MIDI expression to your favourite guitar
Noatronic is launching its Onboard Expression system at NAMM 2019. It’s a potentiometer that can be fitted to any guitar and integrates with a control box to form a system that adds MIDI expression features to your favourite guitar. Neat!
Noatronic Onboard Expression
Installing the Onboard Expression involves adding a new (passive) potentiometer to your guitar which then feeds the main (powered) control box – via a regular guitar lead!
To install the system, you just swap out a regular Tone pot control for one of Noatronic’s fancy ones. This then sends data to the main controller for the Onboard Expression system. This, in turn, feeds a MIDI signal to your source and allows you to send controller information to it.
No routing!
This could be a nice way of upgrading your guitar. Apparently, it requires no extensive routing or permanent modifications to your favourite guitar. Just replace one of your pots with theirs and then plug your guitar into the main box. This gives you expressive control at the turn of your newly fitted dial. This could make it easy to enhance your MIDI rig. It’s easy to think of ways in which this could expand your live performance toolkit.
The whole system, Naotronic says, keeps your guitar signal intact, routing it through the whole shabang without modifying or messing with it. The main receiver box works with most devices which have expression, switch or MIDI inputs, according to its manufacturer.
This product will certainly appeal to a certain type of player that likes to experiment and take their guitar sound way beyond the realm of the humble overdrive pedal or fuzz box. One to watch.
