NAMM 2019: PRS McCarty 594 Hollowbody II with low-turn pickups
PRS is ramping up its announcements ahead of the WInter NAMM 2019. It’s just been in touch to tell us about the McCarty 594 Hollowbody II. This guitar looks like a nice take on the McCarty/Hollowbody II models and puts some great features into an aesthetically pleasing package.
McCarty 594 Hollowbody II
By combining the Hollowbody II and McCarty 594 designs, PRS has made a fully hollow build guitar and paired it with a set of low turn 58/15 LT humbucking pickups.
I imagine that this guitar will sound very sweet indeed. Those two factors will play a huge part in the tone of this new McCarty 594 Hollowbody II. It could well be a match made in heaven. You know PRS will have executed this design using the best tonewoods possible.
24.594”
It combines a pretty, figured maple top and back with a mahogany middle. Then there’s the 24.594” scale length, 22-fret mahogany ‘Pattern Vintage’ neck with a rosewood fretboard. I’m sure it will have the feel and playability I’d expect from a top-of-the-range PRS. It also has the ‘old-school’ PRS bird inlays, which we all know and love (or hate).
On the hardware side we have a two-piece PRS bridge and a tweaked PRS Phase III tuners to keep it all ship shape and in tune. I’d imagine that Paul Reed Smith will have put a lot of thought into this guitar design and hardware choices, so expect a great instrument.
The new PRS McCarty 594 Hollowbody II will ship in a PRS hard case and should be available later this month. Of course, you could always pop to the PRS NAMM Booth and check one out in person, we certainly will!
