NAMM 2020: Boss Katana-Artist MKII 100-watt combo
Boss announces new 100-watt combo amp, the Katana-Artist MKII. It is a pro-spec version of the company’s highly popular Katana MKII amp range.
Boss Katana-Artist MKII
The Katana-Artist MKII is loaded with a single Waza 12-inch speaker and features a contour control, solo boost and a new variation for each of the original Katana amp types. This makes for a total of ten different amp tones available, instead of the regular five.
More Effects
Another update to the amp is that now you can run up to five effects simultaneously, instead of just three. The solo boost has also got its own dedicated level control on the front of the amp. All these additions make this 2020 version of the Katana-Artist a lot more flexible and much more tweakable than its predecessor.
Further customisation to your patches is possible using the Boss Tone Studio software editor, so you can delve pretty deep into all those effects parameters now. You can also connect the amp to a GA-FC foot controller, footswitches, expression pedals and MIDI.
Dual Stereo
The amp comes with an external dual amp control, which enables players to blend between amp tones and to use stereo effects across two amps when pairing up two Katana-Artist MKII’s together. This will give you a much wider stereo spread. I wonder if the previous firmware update for the Katana MK I amps will allow them to save in stereo with this model, as it will for the standard Katana II amps.
The perfect all purpose combo?
My personal opinion is that you are getting a hell of a lot of amp here and for not a lot of money. Perfect as a gigging solution for pro players and with enough flexibility to handle multiple situations with ease.
RRP – USD 599.99
