NAMM 2020: Earthquaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal gets (another) limited release
It is only January and here is yet another Sunn O))) Life Pedal!
Possibly the most hyped pedal of 2019 was the Earthquaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal. We’ve written about three limited editions of this pedal so far. Now EQD has announced a fourth V2 version. Will the hype ever subside?
Life is Life
We all know the basic specifications (if you don’t, click here, here or here). Yup, we’ve all seen the various limited runs of this pedal. And we all know it is based on a ProCo Rat distortion circuit with an added boost. And yes, we all know how awesome this thing sounds. One thing we don’t yet know about the Life Pedal is when the hype about limited editions will finally end!
New Features
To be fair, this latest iteration does have some additional and useful features. You now have an expression pedal control over the octave blend as well as analogue octave blending. Earthquaker Devices’ Flexi-Switch Technology is also featured on the relay-based true bypass footswitches. That’s all fine and dandy.
Again and again
Make no mistake, this is a great-sounding, over-the-top fuzz/distortion pedal. But please, EQD, just release the bloody thing as a regular standard edition pedal and stop all the ‘Limited Edition’ malarkey.
This run is limited to 2,500 units worldwide. The only difference here is the standardised casing without all the ‘mysterious’ packaging and extra limited edition fluff, plus a few feature updates. I do love the way the pedal sounds, but I think we’ve reached the LPMSL: Life Pedal Marketing Saturation Limit!
