NAMM 2020: Leaked! Fender Player Lead III 2020 Purple Metallic
A Reverb seller in Texas, USA just listed a Fender Player Lead III online and it looks as though the guitar will get an official unveiling at Winter NAMM.
Fender Player Lead III 2020 leaked online
Reverb user mundt music of Longview recently listed a Fender Player Lead III for pre-order. The one on Reverb has a Purple Metallic finish, but I read there will be more finishes available, including Sienna Sunburst and Olympic White.
The description in the listing states that, “In response to high-quality, low-priced import guitars, Fender created the Lead Series in 1979, featuring a new solid-body design, hard-tail bridges and cool new wiring options.” These new Fender Player Lead III models are manufactured in Fender’s Mexico facility.
Winter NAMM leak
The new Fender Player Lead III is a tribute to the original 1982-only model. It comes loaded with a set of hot alnico Player humbucking pickups and dual-toggle switches for pickup selection and coil-splits. The maple neck features a Pau Ferro fretboard with a modern “C” neck shape and medium jumbo frets. It has a standard Fender scale length of 25.5″ (648mm).
You can check out pictures of the guitar below. I will update this post with more information as it becomes available.
The price listed is GBP 478, but we will have to see what happens at Winter NAMM this week, to get a definitive price.

Lefty too please Mr Fender.
Every new Fender needs a contoured neck joint.
A pattern? We had lots of 70s styling last year. Moving into the 80s this year…
Not a fan of these colour options.
