With Golden Master, the one-man company Massey Plugins has a new effect on offer. At the request of users, Steven went to work and developed this new tool which deals with soft clipping – in the typically elegant behavior of Massey plug-ins.
Golden Master for a loud but transparent sound
With Golden Master, Massey Plugins presents a very simple and effective plug-in for mix and mastering purposes. The Soft Clipper is supposed to raise the loudness of an audio track or the sum without destroying the dynamics. According to the developer, the result is still very transparent after use. And that probably also works on percussive audio material.
Input Gain, Threshold, Ratio and Speed are available as parameters. The latter is a bit special – at a slow speed, the effect sounds like a traditional analog soft clipper. Distortion is also reduced.
This one sounds like a really useful effect. Unfortunately, only Pro Tools owners benefit here, as is the case with all Massey plug-ins.
Price and release
Massey Golden Master is available from the manufacturer’s website for USD 99. The plug-in runs under Avid Pro Tools as AAX in 64-bit. A limited demo version is also available for download.
