NAMM 2021: Dean delivers a more affordable Kerry King Signature V
When the Kerry King Signature V was released in 2019, it turned a lot of heads. The price, though, made it pretty inaccessible for most players. Dean Guitars has just announced a new version coming in at $1399 instead of $8699, a substantial saving. This beast will no doubt excite a lot of Slayer fans who missed out on the limited run of the original USA built model.
Dean Kerry King Signature V
This new Dean Kerry King Signature V production model is not a limited edition, yet shares many of the features that were in the original USA run of this guitar back in 2019. So you still get the mahogany body with the maple top, but instead of a thru-neck construction this one has a three-piece maple set neck instead. It also has an ebony fretboard with the nice flat 12″ radius with 24 jumbo frets, a 24.75″ scale length and Kerry King’s specified C-shape for the neck.
“I’m super stoked to be part of the Dean Guitars family. This has been an insane long time coming! Together we’re going to create some amazing guitars that Dean, Slayer, and Kerry King fans will be as excited as I am to play them. It’s gonna be a wild ride for years to come!”- Kerry King
EMG Active Pickups
Dean has changed some of the hardware for the production model. The Sustainiac pickup in the neck has been replaced by an EMG-85. And you get a Kahler Hybrid trem system rather than a Khaler KFK Kerry King signature model. You still get the original EMG 81 bridge pickup with a PA2 preamp booster onboard.
None More Black!
With a black satin finish, this monster looks the part, despite the fact it’s missing the gloss red sigil with nails and an inverted cross. So the aesthetic is similar, but toned down somewhat. Overall, though this guitar still has some killer specifications for a metal-styled V with plenty of attitude!
RRP – USD 1399 including hard case
