NAMM 2021: Lindell Audio 50 brings API 500-series sounds to your DAW
Vendor Plugin Alliance has a new release in its catalogue of API hardware emulations. The Lindell Audio 50 Series brings the American manufacturer’s 500-series modules to your DAW in a familiar ‘virtual rack’ format. The plug-in is made by Brainworx Audio using the developer’s patented Tolerance Modeling Technology for realistic analog sound and behavior. It is not endorsed by API, however.
Lindell Audio 50 Series
Although the Lindell Audio 50 Series is usable as a ‘fixed’ console channel strip plug-in, its real power and flexibility surface with the ability to swap the modules like you would do in an actual 500-series rack. Speaking of modules, you will find three EQs, two compressors, noise gate & expander, a preamp, and a service module with gain adjustment, volume metering and other controls.
The modeled EQs include the 3-band semi-parametric API 50A EQ, the 4-band semi-parametric API 50B EQ, and the API 60 precision graphic EQ. The compressors model API’s high-end 2500 VCA compressor and the API 525 FET compressor. The service module includes continuously variable THD and Virtual Gain controls to blend in simulated analog saturation and noise. It also features a fixed high-pass filter (89Hz), -20dB pad switch, and a Unity switch to dial back signal levels.
Other functionality includes a freely resizable user interface and simulated component crosstalk for up to 72 virtual console channels. Fans of the API sound and workflow will likely have lots to love about this plug-in.
Price and availability
The introductory price is USD 299.99, down from USD 349. The plug-in is also part of Plugin Alliance’s MEGA subscription bundle, priced USD 25 monthly and USD 250 yearly. A 14-day fully functional trial is an option. Lindell Audio 50 Series is available in AAX (Native and AudioSuite), AU, VST2, and VST3 formats for Windows and Mac (Intel only) computers.
