NAMM 2021: Moog Model 15 App now available for macOS Big Sur
Model 15
Moog has released a number of software instruments on iOS but the Model 15 is the first one to make it to the desktop.
Model 15
It’s a software version of the iconic 1970s Model 15 modular synthesizer and it’s a beautiful thing to behold. They’ve lovingly replicated the look and feel of the original giving you an authentic, albeit virtual, modular experience.
The Model 15 app features both mono and 4-voice polyphonic modes and you can enjoy those Moog 921 oscillators, 904A Low Pass Filters and 907 Fixed Filter Bank in all their glory.
The app features 4 integrated controllers. There’s a traditional Moog keyboard, the 1150 ribbon controller, 8-step sequencing arpeggiator and the distinctive touch-keyboard from the Animoog app. You can of course attach a MIDI controller keyboard and start using it in a more traditional studio way.
The important factor is that you can now have Model 15 running seamlessly inside your DAW and alongside other instruments and plugins. It becomes part of your studio as an AU plug-in whether you’re using Logic, Garageband, Mainstage or other platforms.
Although Moog are obviously enjoying the whole use-your-screen-in-portrait thing it will also run nicely in landscape mode.
The desktop version of the Model 15 App is a free update to existing owners or $29.99 from the App Store.

One word of caution for Ableton Live users. Model 15 on Big Sur is an AudioUnit3 plugin. While it shows up as a plugin in Live, it will not function. Ableton Live 10.x does not support version 3 AUs. I hope Ableton adds this in the upcoming Live 11 release.
