NAMM 2021: Vox keeps things interesting with new Giulietta, Avena-1 and Mark III Mini Guitars
Vox mixes vintage styling and modelling for 2021
Vox has added a few more models since the announcement of the new Bobcat models this earlier week. These include two new Giulietta models, an Avena-1 and the Mark III mini guitars. The models are all pretty unique and look like they could be a lot of fun to play.
Vox Avena-1
The Avena-1 is a modern day take on some weird ’60s Vox designs, like the Vox Apache. It has a built-in amplifier with four effects and a ‘rhythm machine’ that can do 11 genres.
It is just a pity these don’t look a bit more vintage, as they could have been quirky and cool. Unfortunately, they’ve ended up looking a bit like a toy that you would find in an Argos catalogue.
Vox Mark III Mini Guitar
The Vox Mark III Mini Guitar models are dinky versions of the very famous Vox Teardrop shape we all know and love. And, in spite of being teeny, they can actually be used in standard tuning. They come with two single-coil pickups and are available in three colours: Aqua Green, Lipstick Red and Marble. These look like they could be a lot of fun to play.
Vox Giulietta VGA-5TD
The Vox Giulietta VGA-5TD is an archtop acoustic-electric design with onboard digital modelling via Vox’s AREOS-D system, which gives you access to synth sounds, reverb and overdrive, as well as more acoustic and electric guitar sounds. This modelling system was used before on the Starstream-1 models back in 2016. I wasn’t particularly a huge fan of that design, and much prefer the traditional look of these new Giuletta models.
The specs sound pretty radical for such a vintage looking instrument. Unfortunately, details are scant at the time of this announcement, so we will have to wait and see what this guitar is capable of. We do know that it will be available in Natural/Gunmetal and Pearl Orange finishes, both of which look great in the promo photos.
Vox Giuletta VGA-5TPS
Next up is the similar looking Vox Giuletta VGA-5TPS model which, again, looks quite nice. It has an onboard Super Capacity Preamp System with a piezo pickup and a Low Cut control, and features a patent-pending hybrid wood/aluminium bridge. This model will be available in Pearl Rose and Pearl White finishes.
