NAMM 2022: BluGuitar AMPX finally launches at show
Their Neural Analogue Amp design is finally coming. Honest.
The BluGuitar AMPX was first teased at NAMM 2020, and now two years later is finally ready and launching at the show this weekend. This German amp company run by Thomas Blug has a track record for making interesting amps, so will this new AMPX be a hit?
BluGuitar AMPX
BluGuitars claims the AMPX is “the first amp ever that can reproduce entire amplifier designs using full analogue quality and delivering real tube tone and feel.” It would be a pretty bold claim, but we have already seen their Amp1 Mercury Edition * and the Amp1 Iridium Edition * both get rave reviews from owners.
Neural Analogue Amp
The AAMPX is housed in a larger format case and has six footswitches. Above the footswitches, you will find controls similar to the Amp1 including volume, gain, 3-band EQ, and presence. Plus amp models – modern, classic, vintage, clean, as well as buttons for boost and mid-boost, mod, reverb and master.
Nano-Tubes
The BluGuitar AMPX has the same tech and nano-tubes as their previous products. These are used to create a flexible, pedalboard amp. An amp that is programmable and that can also recreate classic circuits. It does this by using analogue circuits and pairing these with a valve-based 100-watt power amp.
“I’ve always wanted to create an analog amplifier that can authentically recreate any other amp sound I can think of – and with the AMPX, I’ve got it! – Thomas Blug
Analogue & Digital Effects
It also features onboard analogue effects including a compressor, boost, overdrive, fuzz and tremolo. Then you have a suite of digital effects that include pre/post, stereo or mono chorus, phaser, flanger, univibe, delay and reverb. These digital effects are all controlled by a 16-core processor.
It sounds like we will finally see the AMPX reach production this year and it could be a great unit for guitarists on the move. Especially with all that power and flexibility on offer.
