NAMM 2022: Martin Rich Robinson Custom Signature Edition D-28
Based on the guitar Robinson inherited from his father
This new Martin Rich Robinson Custom Signature Edition D-28 model is a recreation of the D-28 inherited from his father. The first time Martin has done an artist one to one recreation of an acoustic.
Rich Robinson Custom Signature Edition D-28
This Rich Robinson Custom Signature Edition D-28 model is the first time that Martin has based a model on a single instrument. They have replicated everything about the guitar inherited from Rich’s father including all the playwear. The D-28 body has Indian rosewood back and sides, an aged Sitka spruce top and is finished in a thin vintage gloss.
Well Played Feel
It has lots of traditional 1950s details including rearward-shifted non-scalloped bracing a dovetail neck joint, authentic hide glue construction, an ebony fingerboard and bridge, along with a set of aged nickel tuners. They have also softened the bridge’s wings for playing comfort. Therefore, it should look and feel just like an old well-played D-28. As a nice touch for fans, the label inside the guitar is signed by Robinson himself and numbered sequentially.
“This guitar, which was passed down to me from my father, is the instrument I learned to play guitar on. It is the instrument on which I wrote our songs, and I played on every Black Crowes’ record. When Martin approached me about a signature model, I thought, what an amazing tribute to have for him. That’s why I named it ‘The Appalachian,’ a nod to my dad and his influence on me.” – Rich Robinson
Jealous Again
Any fan of vintage Martin acoustics or the Black Crowes will surely enjoy playing one of these recreations. It isn’t cheap at nearly twice the price of his signature Gretsch G6136T-RR model from a few years ago. You will need deep pockets, as they are retailing for $6999 each. There is currently no official launch date for this model, but you can check it out on the Martin site.
I reckon they will be pretty special and with a nice worn-in feel you will want to strum out some new song ideas for sure.
