NAMM 2020: MXR Timmy Overdrive – Boutique ‘Paul Cochrane’ tones for less!
MXR and Paul Cochrane collaborate on a new 'Timmy'
MXR has just announced the new ‘Timmy’ Overdrive designed in collaboration with veteran pedal builder Paul Cochrane. Mr Cochrane was the architect of the original Timmy, a coveted drive pedal that’s got pretty pricey these days on the second-hand market. This new collaboration is good news for budget.conscious fans of the Timmy’s tone.
MXR Timmy Overdrive
The MXR Timmy Overdrive is based on the classic boutique hand-built Timmy pedal made by Paul Cochrane. MXR says it has “dynamic range of texture and grit, enhancing the tone of your entire rig without compromising its original character”.
I think this MXR version designed with Paul Cochrane and could be the collaboration of the year. It marries a boutique pedal design mass production techniques in a way we haven’t seen since Dunlop worked with Jeorge Tripps to re-invigorate Way Huge pedals in recent years.
Budget Boutique
Let’s have a closer look at the features and sounds on offer here. There are several different clipping styles, addressing a range of sound applications. The controls allow you to refine your tone using independent Bass and Treble controls. The Timmy comes in MXR’s mini housing, ideal for cramped pedal boards.
If you have never heard an original Timmy in action, then check out the intheblues YouTube video demo below of the original Paul Cochrane pedal version.
RRP – USD 129.99
