New Mac Pro models rumored for 2022, starting at USD 5499 for 32 CPU cores
We know Apple is toiling away at more powerful processors that will signify the already impressive M1 as a mere taste of things to come. We expect it will take the best of its current abilities to successfully switch the entire Mac line-up to Apple silicon in the span of just two years. The biggest showcase for Apple’s CPU designs will be, arguably, the Mac Pro – its most powerful and expensive computer.
We do know from previous rumours that Apple is giving the Mac Pro a complete makeover to take advantage of its new technology. Now, a very active leaker going under the moniker of @LeaksApplePro on Twitter suggests as many as three variants of the computer will be available in 2022, all at different price points.
Mac Pro 2022 starting at USD 5499 for 32 CPU cores
If any of the info is reliable (which we don’t know at this point), the base model 2022 Mac Pro could feature 32 CPU cores (24 performance cores), 32 GPU cores and up to 64GB of RAM. Prices will allegedly start at USD 5499. Next up is the mid-tier Mac Pro with 48 CPU cores (36 performance cores), 64 GPU cores and up to 256GB of RAM. It will start at USD 11,999. The tricked-out model starts at USD 18,999 for 64 CPU cores (48 performance cores) and 128 GPU cores with up to 512GB RAM. Disk space for all three ranges between 512GB to 8TB of SSD storage.
The current Mac Pro tower starts at USD 5999 for the base model with an 8-core Intel Xeon W processor. So a USD 500 discount and a cutting-edge CPU could be coming up on the alleged 2022 Mac Pro. Sounds promising!
As is always the deal with unsubstantiated leaks, take this information for what it is – a rumour. They often turn out to be true, at least to some degree. But last minute changes and overactive imaginations are a thing as well. For what it’s worth, this one sounds realistic enough. We expect to hear more throughout this and next year. We’ll keep you posted.
