New Sounds for the DX7, Oddity 3 and Pigments 6 – Sounds and Presets
Lush-2 gets a new soundbank
The mighty DX7 lives on. Smackos (aka Legowelt) & Dim Garden have created a new album using one and you can have the sounds for free!
Sounds and Presets
It’s all about the numbers this week! Lush 2, Oddity 3, Pigments 6 and the DX7. Let’s see how they all add up
The Art of DX7 by Smackos & Dim Garden
The Yamaha DX7. It is, how we say here in the U.K., a very ‘Marmite’ synth. Marmite is a brown, gooey, savoury spread made from yeast extract. You either love it or you hate it. And the DX7 is like this for many people. It’s also a similar shade of brown!

And yet, more than 40 years on, it won’t go away, the passion remains, both positive and negative and now we have a new bank of sounds and an entire album made using just a DX7, courtesy of Smackos and Dim Garden. Smackos, in case you weren’t aware, is that chap called Legowelt, aka Danny Wolfers.
Billed as ‘Synthesizer Folksongs full with nostalgia and yearning’, which, I must say, has a pleasant ring to it, The Art of DX7 was made entirely with a DX7, using DEXED as a software controller, all fed through a range of analogue filters for added warmth.
The 11-track album has been released on Bandcamp and YouTube, but better still, the sounds used have been collected together and released for free in DX7 Sysex format. Of course, these sounds will work on any DX7-compatible hardware such as the DX1, DX5, TX7, TX802, TX816, DX7-II and KORG’s Volca FM2, but also on the numerous software DX7s out there, such as DEXED, Plogue’s OPS7, Arturia’s DX7 V and NI’s FM8.
Download the free patches here and pick up the album, set at ‘Name Your Price’ via Bandcamp.

Electronica Studio for Oddity 3 by GEOSynths
Jamie Morden has built a solid reputation as a sound designer of some repute with his numerous banks released under his banner of GEOSynths. The Blackpool-based creative has consistently churned out bank after bank of superb sounds for both hardware and software synths alike.

You can also find his work in many of GForce Software’s factory presets across their range of superb instrument plugins. And now he has designed a collection of sounds specifically for the GForce Oddity 3, the third iteration of their remarkable ARP Odyssey reimagination.
Jamie has focused on the era of his musical foundation, the 80s and 90s, when he was heavily into the Electro scene, followed by a stint DJ’ing. Using every aspect of the Oddity 3, including full use of the Macros, Jamie has crafted a brilliantly useable pack of sounds.

Whether you’re looking for sounds that evoke memories of heady days in the clubs and on the streets, or something more ethereal and chilled, this preset pack has something for everyone and really shows off this amazing synth plugin.
You can buy the presets for just £14.99 ex. VAT direct from GForce Software’s website. Make sure you check out Jamie’s other work here too.

Pulse for D16 Lush-2
D16’s Lush-101 got rave reviews when first released, and Lush-2 carried that tradition on when it came out a couple of years ago. Taking the SH-101 concept and expanding on it greatly, Lush-2 is a real powerhouse within your synth arsenal.

Now D16 bring us Pulse, a new expansion pack for Lush-2 that plays to the raw, angry side of the synth with 130 presets that cover pads, sequences and sound effects. This bank has been designed for D16 by HydraTek and his bass-heavy, soundtrack work was clearly an influence on this bank.
This expansion pack is not for the faint of heart and is best suited to those who look for aggressive, harsh and wilder sounds. The original 101 was capable of some snarl, but the Lush-2 amplifies this greatly, and these qualities have been played on here.

Pulse is the antithesis to their Aurora and Lure expansion packs, all of which clearly demonstrate how versatile the Lush-2 instrument is. Pulse for Lush 2 is available direct from D16 here for just €29.
