The Nobels CHO-mini is a new pedal with a wide range of chorus sounds in a very compact format. It’s got three chorus modes and flanging, so you’ll get all the classic modulation sounds from the little red box.

As we saw with the Nobels DEL-mini Delay last November, Nobels is in the process of minifying its effects, which makes sense since overcrowded pedal boards are common. The Nobels CHO-mini pedal comes with three modulation modes that you can easily select using a mode switch on the top of the pedal.

  1. Chorus 1 gives you the coveted bucket brigade sound that originated in the 70s and has been heard on many popular recordings since.
  2. Chorus 2 mode is based on an alternative form of stereo chorus. In this mode, you can choose a higher rate at the end of the control range, which produces more vibrato-like textures. It’s perfect for adding more life and dynamics to your sound.
  3. The Flanging mode does not sound like a classic flanger but creates a more subtle flanging sound reminiscent of a rare and valuable pedal from the 70s.

Tap Tempo

The Nobels CHO-mini includes tap tempo functionality. Just hold the foot switch for two seconds, and the pedal will enter “tap tempo mode.” Then, you can change the speed of the modulation by tapping. From the looks if it, the CHO-mini does not include a MIDI port, so it lacks a way to sync the pedal with effects` tempos.

But, as with the mini pedal DEL-mini, the sheer existence of this mini version might indicate a bigger iteration with more functionality to come. However, it’s much less of a dealbreaker for modulation effects if these cannot be synced to an external tempo than it is with delay effects.

The pedal also includes two switches on the back that add some functionality. The first switch changes the pedal’s signal flow from mono to stereo, both for inputs and output. The other switch lets you choose between true or buffered bypass modes, depending on what you prefer. Finally, the Nobels CHO-mini comes with glow-in-the-dark text and controls, which make it easier to control on gloomy stages.

Price and Availability

The Nobel CHO-mini is available to order at Thomann* for 99 Euros and will be delivered in April 2025. The pedal is small and neat, has a great sound, and is a great price.
