Nocturnal: A new reverb, delay and tremolo effect from Collision Devices
Shimmer Reverb, Modulated Delay and Dynamic Tremolo
The new Nocturnal is a limited edition pedal from Collision Devices, initially made as a one-off for Noli. The effect consists of shimmer reverb, delay and tremolo, all packaged into one unit.
Collision Devices Nocturnal
Originally, this new Nocturnal pedal was a custom order for Noli. Collision Devices then decided to build it as a limited edition run, featuring custom artwork by Noli himself. The unit combines three core effects including a Shimmer Reverb, Modulated Delay and Dynamic Tremolo. You can view these on the pedal as Dawn for reverb, Dusk for delay, and Night for tremolo.
Dawn
For Dawn, the controls are Blend, Reverb and Shimmer, as well as a digital low-pass Filter knob that will make the shimmer “darker or more shiny”. Finally, you have Color. This acts as a bandpass active and analogue filter around 3.3kHz.
Dusk
Dusk has Time and Mix controls for the delay, plus Speed, which controls the modulation frequency from 0.1Hz to 20Hz, and Modulation. Feedback controls the number of repetitions that can self-oscillate when the dial is turned to the 7.5 mark.
Night
Finally, the centre section, Night, has controls that include Depth and Sensibility. Both of these control the tremolo section of the effect.
Each section has its own dedicated footswitch, so you can turn the individual components of the Nocturnal on/off as you need them. The pedal is true bypass, and requires an isolated external power supply rated at 9V DC. You can hear the new limited edition Collision Devices Nocturnal in the video below.
I suspect that it will be popular among players who love ambiences and textures, as it is a perfect set for effects of those styles. For the price, you basically get three dedicated effects. So it is pretty reasonable in that respect, at just over 300 Euros plus shipping.
RRP – EUR 315.83
