Is Old Blood Noise Endeavors’ Excess the most flexible guitar pedal out there?
A boutique cornucopia of distortion and modulation
Old Blood Noise Endeavors has a new offering: the Excess pedal, a cool-sounding Distortion Chorus/Delay effect for us to geek out over. You’ve got dirt, space and modulation effects all in one pedal that also has some nifty features to make effect handling nice and flexible.
Excess
The boutique distortion, chorus and delay of the Excess are all combined in a neat, well laid out pink pedal. Each section of distortion and chorus/delay has its own Volume control, so it should be easy to get the whole effect to balance nicely and get it sounding how you want it.
Series and Parallel
Because this pedal has Series and Parallel switching, you can either run distortion into modulation or run them both side-by-side. Again, this makes for a more flexible effect. You can use a footswitch on the Chorus/Delay modulation channel to switch between chorus and delay. There are controls for both rate/time and depth/feedback.
Also, the modulation parameters are controllable via an optional external expression pedal, so make it easy to tweak and use live ‘on the fly’.
True Excess
The distortion side of the Excess has controls for Tone and Distortion to shape the character and intensity of the distortion. The Excess has true-bypass switching and is powered by a standard 9V DC centre negative power supply.
I reckon this new addition could be a popular one with many players, as it combines some pretty useful effects and looks, on paper, to be very easy to use.
