Orange Rockerverb 50 MK III Neo: Nearly 20% lighter, but full tone
This classic all-tube 2x 12 combo has been on a diet
Today Orange has announced the new lighter-weight Rockerverb 50 MK III Neo 2×12 combo. Now available with all the classic Orange tones, just at around 18% lighter than a regular version. Perfect for lugging in and out of vans for your Weekend night gigs.
Orange Rockerverb 50 MK III Neo
The Orange Rockerverb 50 MK III Neo promises to give you great amp tones, switchable power output (25W and 50W), foot-switchable reverb and a tube-buffered effects loop, just like the full-fat version. Just it has been on a bit of a diet and lost nearly 20 % of the weight of its normal weight.
The Diet?
This new recipe includes using a 15 mm Baltic birch ply, which is 3 mm more slender than the stuff they used on the non-Neo originals.
But that is not all, as the twin 12″ speakers have also been replaced. Now the combo sports a pair of Celestion Creamback speakers rather than the original V30s of old, saving nearly 3 kg per speaker.
These speakers use neodymium magnets that are stronger and lighter than standard ferrite magnets.
The Result
So how much lighter is it? Orange states on its website that the new Neo version comes in at around a saving of nearly 7 kg (15 lbs). I guess that it all adds up, and if you have to lift your combo up loads of stairs, or in and out of your car or van, then you’ll appreciate that weight saving.
Me, I would just get the singer to carry it for you. As it is cheaper, and they have nothing else to do anyway. But seriously, the Rockerverb 50 amps are great and I have played in bands with them many times. If these sound as good as the old ones and the price is good, then I can see them being popular.
MSRP – TBC

Do you mean that the cab contains NEO Creambacks, not just Creambacks?
Yes, I figured people could work that part out from the statement about the magnets in the article. It is also in the official spec list on the Orange site linked at the bottom of the article. Though, they don’t mention it specifically in the main text on their site and just refer to them as Creambacks.
Thanks Jef.
hm thank you for the math moment…
if 18% is 7kg then the new weight is…..38
oh man
Plus, you forgot the new lighter birch cabinets on top of the lighter speakers. Though, Orange doesn’t give a specific weight for the new cabinet by itself.
