Ozone 8 Elements: How to get it for free (well, almost…)
Plug-in developers often use flash sales to grab some attention for an ageing product. It’s become so ubiquitous that you hardly pay any attention any more. Our inbox is continually full of emails with the subject line: “XYZ plug-in now 89% off!” Yours probably is too. But now and again we hit upon software deals that are genuinely enticing. This is one of them.
Ozone 8 Elements
It’s close to a gift of USD 129/GBP 120: Plugin Boutique and iZotope are (almost) giving Ozone Elements 8 away. This is the “smallest” version of Ozone with the slimmest feature set. Although it’s missing a raft of features, there’s still enough here to get acquainted with Ozone and what it can do. The Elements version has the Maximizer feature (minus several algorithms), the Imager and the Equalizer (without Match function or Pre/Post). It also includes a bunch of presets.
A quick gripe here: Having spent a bit of time browsing through the feature comparison list and a list of the new functions in v8, I do wish it was easier to see if the “Intelligent track referencing” feature is the same as “Reference track optimization” in the feature comparison chart. That one’s not in Elements. It’s a bit confusing and makes it harder to pin down which of the new functions I’ll be getting for (nearly free) in Ozone Elements 8.
If you want more, like the Exciter module, Dynamic EQ and Track Referencing features, you’ll have to buy into the product family and upgrade to Standard. But with this offer you’re going to get Elements for next to nothing, so that’s only slightly more expensive than Elements would have been in its own right.
Here’s the caveat: you have to pay at least USD 1 in the Plugin Boutique shop. And you have to give them your data. That lets you sign up for their newsletter. If you don‘t mind giving these guys your data or if you’re already a customer, this is a great deal. Especially considering the upgrade path to Ozone 8 Standard. We don’t know how long this deal’s going to be available, but we assume it’ll be around for a while.
Ozone 8 supports the following operating systems: Mac OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) to macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and Windows 7 through 10.
