The Peluso P-24 is a meticulous modern recreation of the legendary C24 stereo tube condenser without the idiosyncracies of a vintage mic.
Based in Willis, Virginia, Peluso Microphone Lab specializes in the restoration of vintage microphones and building its own line of classically styled microphones for today’s music industry.
Peluso P-24
The P-24 uses two independent large-diaphragm condenser systems inside a single microphone body, with the ability to rotate the top capsule 180 degrees to create Blumlein, X-Y, and mid-side coincident microphone techniques.
Controlled by its hefty-looking PSU, each of the capsules has nine different polar patterns to choose from, making the P-24 one of the most versatile mics available. The two independent signal paths pass through isolated custom transformers and high-impedance circuit boards with a singular vintage 6072AM glass triode vacuum tube powering them.
When compared to the P-12, the P-24’s tube grid bias and its tube’s anode grounding are set up differently which gives the P-24 a superior low-end response and a richer, more natural high-frequency range.
Nothing about the task of building the P-24 was easy, as the power supply, its cable, and connectors all needed to be specifically redesigned to meet the conductor requirements of the dual circuit system.
Overall, the P-24 is a true marvel of recording technology, and as a vintage C24 will set you back over $20,000, this is a great chance to outfit your studio with what is one of the most highly regarded mic designs of all time.
