Pigtronix Gamma Drive: A little piggy or a wooly mammoth?
A small, but versatile, new overdrive pedal
The new Pigtronix Gamma Drive has an active 2-band EQ and comes in a mini-pedal format, perfect for squeezing onto already cramped pedalboard setups. But what makes this little piggy stand out from the crowd?
Pigtronix Gamma Drive
Pigtronix has been busy. Earlier today we saw the new slimmed-down Pigtronix Echolution 3 multi-tap delay pedal, and now we have another small effect from the brand to look at.
A little mini-pedal format, the Gamma Drive is a germanium-enhanced overdrive with active treble and bass EQ controls. Through a special mixture of germanium, LED and silicon diodes that are arranged to produce asymmetric clipping, the Gamma Drive achieves an overdrive rich in second-order overtones and produces a lush drive tone.
This, in theory, should help your notes bloom. So it could be packing a lot more punch than you would expect from such a small pedal. According to the company, the Gamma Drive offers a wide range of overdrive tones, ranging from a sparkling clean boost to angry distortion, and was designed to be versatile in a variety of music genres.
Controls
As it is a mini pedal, there isn’t a whole lot of room for controls. However, it appears to have everything one needs for great drive tones. You get your standard Volume and Gain controls, plus controls for active Bass and Treble. You can use the latter two to boost or cut your low frequencies centered at 80Hz and the high frequencies centered at 2kHz, respectively.
The demo video below gives a good indication of what to expect. If you need a small but flexible overdrive pedal, the Pigtronix Gamma Drive might be worth checking out.
RRP – USD 129.99
